Photo-Secession Movement

The Photo-Secession was a movement started in 1902 by photographer Alfred Stieglitz. The movement promoted photography as a fine art. It was made up from a group of photographers led by Alfred Stieglitz and F. Holland Day. They held the then controversial viewpoint that what was significant about a photograph was not what was in front of the camera but how the photographer manipulated it to achieve their subjective vision. This movement helped to raise standards along with awareness of art photography.
